New fish tank, How to prepare for Discus?

I finally purchased my 40g Discus fish tank. I have the filtering system, and the heater. It is not hooked up yet. What do I need to do to prepare for my Discus? Water conditioning? Chemicals? Do I need to let the tank filter for a certain amount of time? I'm completely lost here guys...
