What is the point to having children if all you are going to do is ship them off or pawn them off on everyone?

I've been confused about that, too. Growing up, a buddy of mine was required to take at least a one week trip away from home during summer vacation. His parents openly confessed that otherwise he would make them crazy. He alternated between feeling hurt and reciprocating the feeling - he couldn't stand to be around them, either.
