Will a 2mm Stretcher hole heal if the stretcher is taken out?

I really want to get a stretcher and my mum has said no because she doesn't think it will heal if i take it out for long enough. I only want a 2mm stretcher so I was wondering that if I took the stretcher out would it re-heal to be the same as a normal piercing?
